Chapter 9

Audio Playback

Hear every line and every selection, right inside ScriptCut.

When you attach audio during import, ScriptCut lines it up with your transcript so you can listen to exactly what you are reading, frame-accurate and trim-aware. It is the fastest way to judge tone and pacing without leaving the page.

Play a single line

Every line on Cleanup, Select, and Arrange has a small play button. Click it to hear just that line. While it plays, the button becomes a stop control and the line is highlighted.

Each line carries a play button next to its timecode, so you can hear any moment on its own.

The media player

Playing anything opens a floating media player capsule: a scrubber, elapsed and total time, a live equalizer, a volume button that goes up to 200 percent (above 100 percent the sound is boosted and the icon turns orange; not on a phone), and a speed control (1x, 2x, 4x). On Cleanup, Select, Arrange and Review the small player sits in the bottom left corner, always open, so you can play from the top (on a phone it is the small phone pill described below): Cleanup and Select play the whole transcript, Arrange and Review play the cut you kept. The video opens when you press play, folds on Stop or when you click away, and stays on Pause. If a video was attached, a separate floating, draggable, resizable video window docks alongside it on Starter/ProAI (Select, Arrange, and Review); Free keeps audio only: you can upload a video on Free, ScriptCut keeps the audio and never the video. Free hears its audio in Cleanup, Select, Arrange and Review, but cannot download audio files. Video playback and downloads start on Starter. ON A PHONE the player is the small phone pill (a play button and an X) in the bottom left, level with the chat bubble, while nothing plays; it becomes the full player while something plays (Pause keeps it, Stop or a tap on empty space brings the small pill back); the X hides it completely until you press play anywhere again. While rows are selected the pill steps aside (the selection bar has its own Play). On a computer it stays as described.

Play your selection or a group

Beyond single lines, you can play an entire selection or a whole group back to back, so you can hear how a sequence flows before you commit. On Review, the player plays the full edit, and clicking any line plays from that point. Word-level trims are respected: playback skips the words you trimmed, exactly as your export will. On a computer, highlighting one or more lines (drag a box across them) opens a floating selection bar at the bottom of Cleanup, Select, and Arrange with the actions side by side: play the selection, mark it Must Have or Maybe, unselect it, favorite it, change the speaker, group it, merge it, or delete it, depending on the page. Press F to favorite or unfavorite the selected lines on Select and Arrange.

Trim-aware by design
Playback always matches your edit. If you trimmed a line down to six words, you hear those six words, never the parts you cut. What you hear is what you will export, with two exceptions that exist only in the download: Clean up audio, and in Social the opening and closing videos. The preview never plays them.
